Olympia Mathiaparanam is a second-year graduate student in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences department at the University of Rochester under the supervision of Dr. Karl Rosengren. She is interested in investigating ways to improve student learning about biology. More specifically, she is interested in understanding what elements of educational materials facilitate learning of threshold concepts [like biological variability and randomness], which prove crucial for later, advanced concept learning in the biology discipline. Olympia holds a BS in the Psychology and Biology fields from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
